Don’t judge a book by its cover and certainly don’t judge a girl by her flip flops.
Right before our youngest daughter was conceived, I developed some health issues. One of those issues was severe pain in my right leg; pain that stretched from my thigh to my ankle.
I can’t even begin to tell you how many MRI’s and X-rays and appointments I had trying to figure out what was causing the pain.
Several people in the medical field blamed it on the fact that I lived in flip flops. So I gave up flip flops. They sent me to physical therapy. I guess the cure for over-exposure to flip flops is physical therapy. Who knew?
Meanwhile, I was getting ultrasounds every three months for something that was going on inside of me and eventually that caused some alarm so I was sent to a specialist. When Dr. Jerry right away suggested exploratory surgery, I melted down in his office. Like “medicate this girl” melted down. Thankfully, he took the time to discover that my melt down was due to all that I was going through with my other health issues.
Then Dr. Jerry gave me hope. He didn’t just look inside this book called Sherry. He looked at the book cover too. He quickly came to the conclusion that the severe pain in my leg was a symptom of what was going on inside of me.
See, I was being judged by what was on my feet. I was being judged by my outward appearance.
How about you? Are you wearing the flip flops of divorce? Maybe the flip flops of mistakes of the past? What about the flip flops of your job or lack thereof? Is your set of flip flops your street address? Do people not take the time to get to know you because you don’t live in their better-than-yours neighborhood? Have you been judged by your flip flops? Or maybe your lack of flip flops?
I want to give you hope today. I want you to know that God loves you – your imperfect flips flops and all. If he had a frig – your picture would be on it wearing those imperfect flip flops. Don't be afraid to run to Him – dirty flip flops and all!
